Payment instruments

How can a customer pay, and what differs between the ways?

Cards and wallets, pay by bank, QR and instant transfers, bank transfers, instalments and bonus points. Each has its own steps until the funds are secured; after that, the path is shared.

Allowed by policy
Each channel offers the instruments its policy allows; a channel can only narrow the list of the unit above it.
Different first steps
A card is authorised, a transfer is awaited, points are reserved.
Different options later
Instruments differ in partial capture, partial refunds and disputes.
Points as a tender
The company’s bonus system keeps its own rules; points pay part of an order like any other instrument.

§ 2

In detail

2.1

What each channel offers

Instruments are allowed by policy down the company’s structure, and a channel can only narrow the list of the unit above it. Payment on delivery works after picking: the courier brings the exact amount as a QR code, and the payer pays by transfer or by card. Corporate customers receive an invoice with payment terms.

2.2

Different first steps

Every attempt starts the same way: an instrument is chosen, and the attempt is screened and routed. Then each instrument takes its own steps until the money is secured — a 3-D Secure check, a bank’s consent, a scan, a lender’s approval. From the capture on, all of them follow one path again.

2.3

What each can do later

Instruments differ in what can happen later: whether money can be held and captured after picking, refunded in part, charged again or disputed through a card scheme. The pay page and the cabinets read these capabilities from one catalogue, so an operator is never offered a partial refund an instrument cannot do.

2.4

Bonus points as a tender

The company’s bonus system stays where it is and keeps its rules. The pay page shows the payer’s balance; the points chosen are reserved, then redeemed as part of the order, and a refund returns them. Points and a card are two payments of one order; if the card part fails, the points are given back. The bonus system reports them in a daily batch, which is reconciled like a bank’s.

2.5

Who carries them

Each instrument rides a rail — card, account-to-account, transfer, QR, credit or loyalty — and each rail has the providers the company has agreements with. In the demo all of them are stand-ins.
